All sorts of creatures live in our pond:
Lots of… uhm… interestingly coloured fish…
…at least one yellow bellied salamander of which I have no photo (yet), about 50 frogs in all sorts of shapes and sizes…
(for Frog’s sake, don’t these creatures know how to use a napkin?)
He’s behind you!
I’m right behind you…hehehe
…and of course a dog. Or two. Or three. Well, they don’t actually live in the pond, but they do spend a lot of time in it.
Yesterday two of our dogs went for a swim and a frog jumped in too. It swam underneath Phoebe and surfaced just in front of Holle. It continued to swim and bumped it’s nose against Holle’s side. Like a mime-player it stretched out it’s front legs (or should we call them arms?) to feel what it had bumped into; fingers spread wide, slowly feeling from in front of it’s nose to the left and the right. So cute. It looked a bit puzzled when it felt all that fur and then decided that it was probably best to do a quick disappearing trick.
I think you had a little too much free time on your hands yesterday....
ReplyDeleteI love this pups face!... and the antics of the feeling frog.
ReplyDeleteRWP,
ReplyDeleteyou might be right ;-)
Karen,
She's thirteen and her eyes are a bit glazed over, but she still has the same look as when she was a little pup ;-)
We are planning a pond in our garden - I just hope I can get lots of frogs to come and live in it. perhaps not a dog though.
ReplyDeleteTee hee! Your pond sounds like ours, though your frogs are rather prettier than ours (maybe 'prettier' is the wrong adjective ;-})
ReplyDeleteI love our pond - it's a magnet for wildlife, including herons. We discourage our dogs from swimming in it - duckweed isn't a good look ;-)
Do the dogs chase the fish and/or frogs? Hannah would. She spent half an hour yesterday barking out the window at a twig with a dozen leaves on it :P
ReplyDeleteDon't Bug Me,
ReplyDeleteHours of fun, a pond. Frogs will find it and if you have labradors in the neighbourhood, don't be surprised if they find it too ;-)
Jabblog,
How can our frogs be prettier? How ugly are yours? We've given up discouraging our dogs. They are simply undiscouragable (that might be a new word, I'm not sure) and we've learned to be very relaxed about it ;-)
Skittles,
The dogs completely ignore everything else that swims in the pond. Frogs could sit on their heads and they wouldn't even blink. Fish swim between their legs, they couldn't care less.
I'm not sure how they would react to a twig with a dozen leaves on it. Ten leaves, they can cope with. But a dozen, you cannot trust those twigs ;-)
Not too happy about frogs and/or toads. When my cats get them (which they invariably do), they screech. Like nails on a blackboard...
ReplyDeleteMara,
ReplyDeleteThey do! Poor creatures. But...Carolina to the rescue! Have only had to jump into action once this year. Most frogs escape the Petje-attacks. Phew.
Your frogs look grumpy. Is that because of their inability to find a napkin? Or perhaps their disdain for the paparazzi? Maybe they smile when you're not taking a picture. Curiosity to this important issue is killing me. Could you go ask them? Oh, wait. They probably wouldn't answer you because they're so grumpy. Never mind.
ReplyDeleteReputation@Stake,
ReplyDeleteNot grumpy. They are pondering ;-)
love those frogs photos.
