Broken

my wrist that is. can’t be bothered with capitals since i’m typing with 2 fingers of my right hand now. the other hand is neatly wrapped up in plaster. only a plaster splint for now to allow space for swelling and then next week they’ll fit me with a nice coloured plaster (i’m thinking orange because of the olympics which i like watching and it will also make me very popular with people who love football/soccer, which i don’t care about at all, but that information will be purely given out on a need-to-know-basis). i will have to wear that for 6 weeks and if not all is well by then i can choose another (or the same) colour for another 6 weeks. apparently i broke a tiny bone with a long name that has a reputation for being a bad healer. fingers crossed it will behave in my wrist.

so. that is why i will have one white and one brown arm at the end of summer.

will have to do what petje does best, just relax and enjoy the sun.

Something blogworthy happened…

…and now I can only type with one hand and don’t have the patience to type the entire short story. So I’ll make it even shorter. I made a lovely butt shaped indentation in the sand again (2nd time involuntary descent from young and incredibly-quick-turn-around Evie) and also a lovely hand shaped one. Must have done, because my wrist hurts like hell. Can’t really remember how I landed. The rest of me is fine, I did climb up and rode her further for a while. Went well. But now ouch.

So… i’ll just keep posting photos here and on my photoblog (see link at bottom of this page).

Something blogworthy turned out to be something shit. Sorry if you’re offended by my language.

I’ll make it up to you with this photo of Biggles and Mozes. Best friends.

Sunday Selections #59 : The tulips and cat edition

It’s Sunday again. Time for the Sunday Selections, hosted by Kim from Frogpondsrock. They do, you know.
Anyway, if you have tons of photos hanging around in your computer somewhere, waiting for a reason to be shown to the blogging world, hop over to the rocking frog ponds and follow the almost non-existent rules for joining in.

This Sunday I thought I’d get into Spring-mood and show you some colourful tulips. One of our cats, Snoesje is hiding behind the tulips, while guarding the newspaper.

Nothing special, just nice and cheerful.

When I buy tulips, I buy lots of bunches in different colours and mix them up. And if the colours clash, so be it. I like it that way. Makes me smile.

I’m the Queen

But only in the land of the blind that is called ‘Photography’, where some friends of mine live and in which I’m the one-eyed woman. It is lonely at the top, so I’ve written a short and simple photography course, very aptly titled ‘In the land of the blind…’, for my loyal subjects, who each recently acquired a nifty digital SLR camera and hadn’t a clue what to do with it other than taking photos using the automatic setting. But that is not why someone buys a camera with lots and lots and then even more lots of possibilities.

Yesterday one of these friends came here to practice her photography skills together with the Queen herself. Ahum. We called it: Lesson One – Aperture, and while enjoying a cup of tea and some homemade cookies (made by hubs who is the King in the land of the blind that is called cookie-baking), I explained the difference in aperture settings and focus, with the emphasis on a small F number for close-ups and then we went into the garden to see if my explanation had made any sense at all. The weather was perfect. Very sunny (and very cold too, but it is winter) and dry.

I haven’t seen her photos yet, but these are some of the shots I took myself. And apparently I do know what I’m talking about. The only thing is… have I been able to explain it well enough to someone else? I can’t wait to see her shots.

F5.6, focus on the second apple.

See the difference?

We did the same exercise, using the fence around our field as a subject.

I know. You’re amazed.

My kingdom has many gates and fences. Here’s another one. Nice, non? Looks like the head of little guy with a pointy hat. A small gate-keeper perhaps?

On our photohunt in the garden, Mozes, one of my loyal subjects from my other country ‘Furrytailland’, followed us around, hoping to convince us that he would be a magnificent subject for a photo or two.

_MG_0592

Doing the look-at-me-I’m-a-gorgeous-cat-stare at friend who ignored him, because she was taking photos of a tree. I couldn’t resist of course.

He then did the look-at-me-I-can-climb-a-tree-and-descend-elegantly-too-trick.

_MG_0594_MG_0596_MG_0597_MG_0598

“Did you get that?”

_MG_0599

“Good. I can climb a tree with two paws in my nose of course. Easy-peasy.”

_MG_0601

“I’m pretty comfy here. Might stay here for a while.”

_MG_0603

“Did you see how high up I was?”

_MG_0610

“Wait! What’s that I see?!”

_MG_0611_MG_0612_MG_0614

So I looked what he had spotted and it was a deer! And I had my camera with me. That only happened once before. I often see deer. I often have my camera with me. But only once before I’ve seen a deer and had my camera with me. Hopefully next time I will have my 70-300mm lens on my camera in stead of my 17-85mm. But hey, you can’t have everything. And besides. Where would you keep it all.

Sunday Selections: the nap time edition no. 3

This is the last nap time edition. They are still cute (of course they are), but by now it’s beginning to get a bit booooooring to watch animals sleep.

Sunday Selections is hosted by Kim from Frogpondsrock and gives us the opportunity to finally post those photos that have been hanging around in folders on our computers for ages.

Sunday Selections: the nap time edition

Sunday Selections is a great meme that gives us the opportunity to post those almost forgotten photos that have been hanging around in folders on our computers. Kim from Frogpondsrock came up with this great idea. If you like to join in, just hop over to the rocking frog ponds and post a selection of your own. You know how these things work.

Last week I promised you a selection of photos that will make you chuckle or say ‘awww’.
Oh, the pressure.
I hope you won’t be disappointed. And I have to warn you: in some shots Biggles shamelessly displays his balls. He’s a proud boy.

Warned you about the Biggles-balls. It does get worse though…

See?

For more sleepy photos of the furry bunch, you’ll have to wait for the next Sunday Selections. I have loads of them and I haven’t even posted the cutest yet…

Sunday Selections: the love edition

Our Sunday Selections host Kim’s daughter got married yesterday. She has some lovely photos and a memorable wedding story on her blog Frogpondsrock.

So I thought it would be nice to choose my Sunday Selections for this day, based on LOVE.

SSL10558

Sarah (the cat, sadly no longer with us) loved Phoebe (now 14 years old).

SSL10584

Lovedoves.

SSL10780

Hubs loves his horse Willem.

SSL11053

They all love each other.

SSL11056

It’s getting a bit crowded with so much love going on.

SSL11100

Cute love.

SSL11320

I loved this little cat, Lapje, but sadly she’s one of the fourleggers who’s no longer with us.

SSL11674

Well, who wouldn’t love Nufnuf’s smiling face.

IMG_0026

Or that of his non-related brother Tumtum, who isn’t as smiley, but definitely very loveable.

There is so much love going on in our house, that I have enough photos for several Sunday Selections. More of the same will be in next week’s Sunday Selections.
