Sunday Selections #59 : The tulips and cat edition

It’s Sunday again. Time for the Sunday Selections, hosted by Kim from Frogpondsrock. They do, you know.
Anyway, if you have tons of photos hanging around in your computer somewhere, waiting for a reason to be shown to the blogging world, hop over to the rocking frog ponds and follow the almost non-existent rules for joining in.

This Sunday I thought I’d get into Spring-mood and show you some colourful tulips. One of our cats, Snoesje is hiding behind the tulips, while guarding the newspaper.

Nothing special, just nice and cheerful.

When I buy tulips, I buy lots of bunches in different colours and mix them up. And if the colours clash, so be it. I like it that way. Makes me smile.

Tulips and photographers

A friend mentioned that there was a beautiful, colour coordinated tulip field somewhere in the North East of Groningen. So yesterday hubs and I drove up there to take some photos. The weather was beautiful. Sunny and warm and a clear blue sky. We took our convertible and the scenic route and felt like we were on holiday.

And we found the colour coordinated tulip field. And lots of photographers. Apparently this was a famous field. It felt a bit like being a bird spotter. You know, the people who text and phone each other when they’ve spotted the very rare Polifinario (a non-existing bird, made famous by Dutch comedian Toon Hermans, no longer with us, according to whom the Polifinario goes: “Krrrroot” and the Kroot goes: “Polifinario”.) and who then grab their cameras and incredibly large lenses and flock together to spot the Polifinario and take THE photo. We all spotted the tulips and tried to make the photo. It gave me the giggles.

THE shots are on my photoblog. And they are really not that special. Because I preferred shooting the photographers. Actually the photo in this post, with the photographer in black, is my favourite.

100 Things I Love About The Netherlands #16

 

TULIPS

Although actually tulips originate from almost every country but the Netherlands – especially Turkey I believe, tulips are thought to be typical Dutch flowers.

And who am I to disagree. Nothing better than the first bunch of tulips in a vase after a long, grey Winter. Or those vast acres of red, yellow, pink, purple tulips that brightly colour the landscape in a stripy pattern. I haven’t made photos of that myself yet, so I used one I found on the internet. Doesn’t that brighten up your day?

We do have two tulips, yes, TWO whole tulips, in our own garden. First I thought we had the grand total of one tulip, but just now I’ve discovered another one. Tulip bulbs need to be lifted every year and then replanted again to keep producing flowers, but I’m too lazy for that. So our bulbs do produce leafs, I imagine they’ll stop doing that one day too, but no flowers. Except for those brave two tulips that is.

See how it’s trying to grab my attention, hidden under the thriving raspberry bushes? It’s definitely waving. And if you listen closely you can hear a faint “help”. Poor tulip. But not ignored any longer.
