Inspired

Both Don’t Bug Me and The Hidden Realm post b e a u t i f u l photos. I asked Don’t Bug Me how she managed to create a certain effect (a dark background) and she explained it to me. Then Dave from The Hidden Realm posted some gorgeous macro shots of a flower. These wonderful bloggers inspired me to pick up the camera and give it a try myself.

And look… this is what came out… (now, I’m not saying my photos are even half as good as theirs, but I’m certainly making some progress. Finally the things I’ve learned during the Beginner Photography Course I followed last year start to sink in and begin to make sense to me. Hoorays are in order.)

perfect composition on the first flower photo, the lighting is superb and i like that you included the greens on the left to balance the frame. the second flower photo i also like, they are like two dancers in choreograph. your macros are superb and they are all winners.

thank you, im speechless but thrilled that you included me in your blogroll and believed me im not as good as you think i am.

    thanks once more.

  7. Pam,
that black background makes so much difference. It makes an otherwise reasonable photo really dramatic.

    Jabblog,
    thanks ;-)

    KK,
as you know, I've emailed you the trick ;-)

    Jay,
such a lovely name for a meat fly ;-) It stayed put for a long time, so I was able to try lots of different camera settings. This was the only photo that came out good. I believe I also used the flash on this one.

    Skittles,
Hehe, thanks, but I'm not doing an extra tennis game on the Wii for every hooray ;-)

    Dave,
Oh, but you are as good as I think you are! I love your photos. And the variety in them. Very inspirational. So, don't be so modest ;-)
The flower photos are my favourites too. That black background really makes a difference. Would you believe I used my 70-300 lens for all of these? Not even a Macro lens. And no tripod either (I don't have one yet).
    I'm GOOD, haha ;-)

    Putz,
I'm sure people are just checking if you have perhaps added something to your latest post again. I've been visiting you three times to see whether you posted something new, and was really disappointed that you haven't. And now I have to visit you again to see what these things in your sidebar look like ;-) If you are not writing new posts, I'm not going to add you to my blogroll. Does that sound like a threat? Oh.

  9. Carolina they're gorgeous. How did you get the black background, I've been trying to do it but can't work out the settings.

  10. You are getting better everyday. The flowers are gorgeous, but that still of the butterfly is genious. It creates the impression of KNOWING what the texture of the wings feel like without touching it. Your camara works better than my eyes. Look at the body of the butterfly.. you just know that if you could place your finger on the back of the beautiful creature that it would feel soft, but slightly bristly. (<--- not sure if that's a word). I wish I could bring photo's to life like that. I'm expecting her to fly away at any moment. It's like you put the world on pause for a moment.

I should say at this time that I know nothing about photography, but I know what I feel. Beautiful work! My favourite one so far.
