Sunday Selections #59 : The tulips and cat edition

It’s Sunday again. Time for the Sunday Selections, hosted by Kim from Frogpondsrock. They do, you know.
Anyway, if you have tons of photos hanging around in your computer somewhere, waiting for a reason to be shown to the blogging world, hop over to the rocking frog ponds and follow the almost non-existent rules for joining in.

This Sunday I thought I’d get into Spring-mood and show you some colourful tulips. One of our cats, Snoesje is hiding behind the tulips, while guarding the newspaper.

Nothing special, just nice and cheerful.

When I buy tulips, I buy lots of bunches in different colours and mix them up. And if the colours clash, so be it. I like it that way. Makes me smile.

Sunday Selections: the nap time edition no. 3

This is the last nap time edition. They are still cute (of course they are), but by now it’s beginning to get a bit booooooring to watch animals sleep.

Sunday Selections is hosted by Kim from Frogpondsrock and gives us the opportunity to finally post those photos that have been hanging around in folders on our computers for ages.

Sunday Selections: the nap time edition, no. 2

This is the 50th edition of Sunday Selections, hosted by the very creative and lovely Kim from Frogpondsrock. Sunday Selections gives us the opportunity to post those photos that have been hanging around on our computers(s) for ages. I seem to have a lot of photos of sleepy animals, so this is the second edition of my Sleepy Sunday Selections. A third edition will follow next Sunday. We will all be terribly bored by then.

For other, more ‘professional’, photos taken by yours truly and featuring horses and their humans, see my attempt to start a photography business.

Sunday Selections: the nap time edition

Sunday Selections is a great meme that gives us the opportunity to post those almost forgotten photos that have been hanging around in folders on our computers. Kim from Frogpondsrock came up with this great idea. If you like to join in, just hop over to the rocking frog ponds and post a selection of your own. You know how these things work.

Last week I promised you a selection of photos that will make you chuckle or say ‘awww’.
Oh, the pressure.
I hope you won’t be disappointed. And I have to warn you: in some shots Biggles shamelessly displays his balls. He’s a proud boy.

Warned you about the Biggles-balls. It does get worse though…

See?

For more sleepy photos of the furry bunch, you’ll have to wait for the next Sunday Selections. I have loads of them and I haven’t even posted the cutest yet…

Sunday Selections: the love edition

Our Sunday Selections host Kim’s daughter got married yesterday. She has some lovely photos and a memorable wedding story on her blog Frogpondsrock.

So I thought it would be nice to choose my Sunday Selections for this day, based on LOVE.

SSL10558

Sarah (the cat, sadly no longer with us) loved Phoebe (now 14 years old).

SSL10584

Lovedoves.

SSL10780

Hubs loves his horse Willem.

SSL11053

They all love each other.

SSL11056

It’s getting a bit crowded with so much love going on.

SSL11100

Cute love.

SSL11320

I loved this little cat, Lapje, but sadly she’s one of the fourleggers who’s no longer with us.

SSL11674

Well, who wouldn’t love Nufnuf’s smiling face.

IMG_0026

Or that of his non-related brother Tumtum, who isn’t as smiley, but definitely very loveable.

There is so much love going on in our house, that I have enough photos for several Sunday Selections. More of the same will be in next week’s Sunday Selections.

Of cats and dogs

It’s a sleepy bunch of cats and dogs in our house. And they like to snuggle up together. This is our 14 year old labrador Phoebe, holding paws with Snoes. What can I say… they obviously haven’t read the books or seen the cartoons in which cats and dogs hate each other.

Chard

IMG_3767 I’m far too excited about this vegetable garden. I might have a mental breakdown if the slugs and pigeons discover and attack it. Let us all hope it will not come that far. I have bought slug and snail pellets for the first time éver and will not hesitate to use them. No more Mrs. Nice Girl!

Meanwhile, yesterday we had our second harvest from the tiny vegetable patch. Chard or perpetual spinach.

I didn’t have a clue what to do with IMG_3992them, so rule 3 came into operation: ‘When in doubt, make a quiche!’ Rule 1 is of course: ‘Brinkbeest is always right’. Rule two: ‘When Brinkbeest is not right, rule 1 will automatically take effect.’ It works for me.

So a quiche I made. And both rules 1 and 3 proved to be correct. Using puff pastry for the base and filling that with sweated down onion, garlic and chard, soft goats cheese, pine nuts, some fresh mint from the garden and a mixture of eggs and cream. And lots of pepper. Some grated Gouda to top it off, 20 minutes in the oven on 200 Celsius. IMG_3997Okay, so maybe it doesn’t look all that appetizing, but it tasted really good.

And for dessert we had something really sweet:

Noticed Snoes’s little paw resting against Phoebe’s back? You can ‘biggify’ this photo by clicking on it. One of those heavenly benefits of using Windows Live Writer. All pictures will get bigger if you click on them. Bliss! And they appear where you include them in your post, without having to juggle them and the text around again and again. And again. Until you are ready for the men in white suits to take you away… That is why the photos in this post are dotted around all over the place. Just because…

Camera Critters, Petpride: Mistake

Snoes (pronounced appropriately somewhat like Snooze) misinterpreted the word Bird Feeding Table. She's waiting for a bird to come and feed her.

Camera Critters, from Little to Large

May 2008 we adopted four 8 weeks old cats. From top to bottom: Petje, Lapje, Snoes and Mozes. The first picture of each cat was taken on the day they arrived in our home, the picture beneath that shows how much they've grown now they're almost one year old. They are all very sweet (even if they look just a tad angry in the picture) and best friends with our 19 year old cat Bengeltje and our three labradors. Next week I will 'devote' my Camera Critters post to Bengeltje. She deserves a post of her own.
