"SOAP ON THE ROOF!

AND CLOSE THE WINDOWS!", my father would have yelled if he had been here this morning.
Because when hubs went outside to collect the paper, he saw this:
Fortunately it landed on the roof of our neighbours house. Who are both well over 60.
So there will be no need to panic we think. The stork looked quite relaxed too. Perhaps it was having a day off.

  1. ROTF. Maybe he was bringing a present to one of your animal friends! (And no, eggs don't count).

  2. Jabblog,
Storks are not at all a common sight in the Netherlands. I think I saw my first one when I was about 20. Near our house are a couple of nests, but everytime we see them it feels special.

    Jewels,
    God I hope not!

  4. I see storks quite often, there must be so many nests close to here (sorry).

Perhaps you will soon have little ones: cats, dogs, another horse?

  5. Cecilia,
My dad has his moments ;-)

    Mara,
I was looking up what the story about storks was, because I remembered that at some point there were almost no breeding pairs left in the Netherlands, and in 1969 someone started a breeding project Groot Ammers. There are more breeding stations now and apparently more and more storks nestle somewhere on the southside of Lelystad.
But honestly, I'd never seen one before we went to live in Drenthe and saw them occasionally around De Wijk, where another of those stations is. I still think it's special to see them. And I see them every day now ;-)

  6. Awesome! Watch out for that chimmney they like nesting there don't they? The only birds this big here reside in the far north so no need to soap my roof. He's gorgeous!

  7. Baino,
I wouldn't mind if they build a nest on the neighbour's chimney ;-)

  8. Hahahaha!! I thought at first you meant because they like to nest in chimneys, then I got it. LOL!

They wouldn't be welcome here, either! Not in that sense!

  9. Jay,
My father's contraception method isn't the most reliable option available, of which I'm living proof ;-)

  12. Suldog,
perhaps I need to warn you that it isn't the most reliable way...

    Jinksy,
Ideal spot! Not on our house, fields with mice and frogs etc. on their doorstep, nice views, what more could they want?
