Phoebe and Lapje snuggled up together for their afternoon nap.
Phoebe is the dog (a Labrador Retriever, she is 12 years young), Lapje is the other one (not even 1 year old). She is a tortoiseshell coloured cat; we call that 'lapjeskat', hence the name Lapje.
A 'lapje' in Dutch is a small piece of cloth. A quilt for instance consists of all kinds of different 'lapjes'.
If you really want to know how to pronounce Lapje.....uhm: well the 'a' sounds like the 'a' as in the British pronounciation of bath. If you replace the 'a' by an 'o' you're almost there. Sorry to have bored you.

Camera Critters 2

ReplyDeleteHi fellow Dutchie! Nice to meet you! It's pretty late here so I don't exactly where you live. Is it Groningen or Australia? I haven't had time to figure that out. Well ... never mind. I live in The Netherlands and one of my daughters lives in Queensland, Australia. Nice blog you have! With Phoebe and Lapje by your side life must be pretty good. You've also got some wonderful piggies and a mare!! Heel leuk allemaal! Er zitten nog meer Nederlanders op Blogspot.
ReplyDeleteOh, that's absolutely lovely. There's nothing quite so sweet as when a cat and a dog have a friendship.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was younger, I had a cat and my neighbor (in the same house) had a dog. They were bosom buddies. When another dog would come into the yard and try to mess with my cat, Chipper (the dog) would bark at him and run him back into the street. Needless to say, this puzzled the other dogs to no end!
