I’m far too excited about this vegetable garden. I might have a mental breakdown if the slugs and pigeons discover and attack it. Let us all hope it will not come that far. I have bought slug and snail pellets for the first time éver and will not hesitate to use them. No more Mrs. Nice Girl!
Meanwhile, yesterday we had our second harvest from the tiny vegetable patch. Chard or perpetual spinach.
I didn’t have a clue what to do with them, so rule 3 came into operation: ‘When in doubt, make a quiche!’
Rule 1 is of course: ‘Brinkbeest is always right’.
Rule two: ‘When Brinkbeest is not right, rule 1 will automatically take effect.’
It works for me.
So a quiche I made. And both rules 1 and 3 proved to be correct.
Using puff pastry for the base and filling that with sweated down onion, garlic and chard, soft goats cheese, pine nuts, some fresh mint from the garden and a mixture of eggs and cream. And lots of pepper. Some grated Gouda to top it off, 20 minutes in the oven on 200 Celsius. Okay, so maybe it doesn’t look all that appetizing, but it tasted really good.
And for dessert we had something really sweet:
Noticed Snoes’s little paw resting against Phoebe’s back? You can ‘biggify’ this photo by clicking on it. One of those heavenly benefits of using Windows Live Writer. All pictures will get bigger if you click on them. Bliss! And they appear where you include them in your post, without having to juggle them and the text around again and again. And again. Until you are ready for the men in white suits to take you away… That is why the photos in this post are dotted around all over the place. Just because…
I think your quiche looks delicious! Pity you can't make quiche without eggs - or can you? I'm excited that our celery leaves have overwintered and growing strongly again - celery with everything :-)
ReplyDeleteI am not too much of a quiche fan, but it sounds quite good. The dessert was really sweet, although clicking on the photo didn't biggify it very much. Sorry...
ReplyDeleteJabblog,
ReplyDeleteCan you not? I haven't thought about that. Our chickens are laying so many eggs that we grab every opportunity to consume them ;-) But if you can't eat eggs... Let me get back to you on that.
Mara,
I know. Discovered that already. Oops. But that's just because I already made the photo quite big in the post. Because that's also one of WLW's pluspoints. You can make the photos whatever size you want.
Jabblog,
ReplyDeleteperhaps if you use a cream cheese in stead of eggs?
I can see why you are stressing - your garden is better organized than my office!
ReplyDeleteI wish I'd found Windows Live Writer before I left Blogger - it sounds like a gift. And I think it means we'll be hearing more from you. I have to love that!
i "biggified" to see the quiche & now my stomach is rumbling with hunger
ReplyDeletethanks ;)
Hi, and thank you for visiting my blog, and your kind comments as well. Love the photo of your dog and beautiful cat.. the paw! So content, they are.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the quiche looks awesome, hadn't thought to put that combo together out of the garden, will give it a go!
Life With Dogs,
ReplyDeleteAnd I thought you knew everything about computers being so clever with Photoshop. Anyhoo, I'll hopefully be here more often. WLW certainly makes blogging less time-consuming. And thanks ;-)
t i m,
You're welcome. I failed to mention that hubs 'enjoyed' the quiche again and again that evening. Think it had something to do with the onion/garlic. Perhaps that knowledge helps ;-)
Karen,
They are cute aren't they? Our 4 cats and 3 dogs are great friends.
Thanks for joining my bunch of followers. When (or if) no. 70 joins, we'll all have champagne ;-)
Au contraire, mon amie, your quiche both looks and sounds delicious.
ReplyDeleteI know for a fact that if you put a barrier of table salt around your garden, the slugs will die. I have also heard that beer will do the same thing, and it just might make the pigeons happy also.
I think your quiche looks wonderful, but I can't eat eggs like that, so I'll never know. Poor me!
ReplyDeleteLove the photo! Do I take it you've moved your blog? ;)
I LOVE QUICHE. But can't cook. Maybe I'll come to your house for supper. Congrats on your garden.
ReplyDeleteMy first instinct would have been to lie down on the couch with puppy and kitty. Only after the moment had passed would I have remembered to take a photo. I have often though that the option to sugically install a camara in my eyeballs would be extremely efficient. How come we can't do that yet? I mean... people walked on the moon but I can't take a snapshot by blinking? Maybe I'll develop the concept... now where did I put that scalpul?
Rhymeswithplague,
ReplyDeleteAh, but salt will also kill plants. And if I'd use the beer, I'd have drunken dogs wobbling around the garden. I know for a fact they like drinking beer ;-)
Jay,
I haven't moved my blog. It's still in the same place. I'm just writing my posts in a Windows Live Writer (they should pay me by now) and that works so much better!
Jewels,
That is a brilliant idea! From which orifice would the printed photo come though? And if we need flash? Hmmm.... (And I'm a sceptic concerning the man on the moon, hehe.)
Sigh. Don't worry. Hubs and I have a weekly argument about the moon thing. I have to believe... otherwise the whole world is a sham and I begin to get paranoid about what else we've been lied to about.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking about installing a USB port behind my ear. Then I could download my memories at the same time and would no longer have to worry about forgetting my mother's birthday.
Jewels,
ReplyDeleteA USB port behind your ear; thát would work. Do people around you know how brilliant you are?
No. I generally don't tell people. If they knew they would probably lock me up in a padded cell with one of those nice coats that have all the buckles and straps. I considered volunteering to go to the place with the padded cells - as I hear they hand out psyco-tropic drugs like candy, but the negatives seem to out-weight the positives by a hair.
