A friend mentioned that there was a beautiful, colour coordinated tulip field somewhere in the North East of Groningen. So yesterday hubs and I drove up there to take some photos. The weather was beautiful. Sunny and warm and a clear blue sky. We took our convertible and the scenic route and felt like we were on holiday.
And we found the colour coordinated tulip field. And lots of photographers. Apparently this was a famous field. It felt a bit like being a bird spotter. You know, the people who text and phone each other when they’ve spotted the very rare Polifinario (a non-existing bird, made famous by Dutch comedian Toon Hermans, no longer with us, according to whom the Polifinario goes: “Krrrroot” and the Kroot goes: “Polifinario”.) and who then grab their cameras and incredibly large lenses and flock together to spot the Polifinario and take THE photo. We all spotted the tulips and tried to make the photo. It gave me the giggles.
No ghost in this shot. Just a cyclist passing by.
THE shots are on my photoblog. And they are really not that special. Because I preferred shooting the photographers. Actually the photo in this post, with the photographer in black, is my favourite.
People are more interesting, I think.ingemiz
ReplyDeleteSo are these fields strictly for photographers and passers-by to enjoy? Do they thrive for another purpose? I can't imagine turning a corner on the road and coming upon these beautiful fields of colors.
ReplyDeleteI belong to a local birding club and that is exactly how they react to an unusual bird in the area - tweets go out, there is a phone tree, etc.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm not that interested as it finally dawned on me what I thought was a robin singing was actually an Eastern towhee and *that* realization came after being with the club for many years.
I really don't pay attention.
Ha! I love the bit about the Kroot and the Polifinario! LOL!
ReplyDeleteAnd the tulips are gorgeous... but there's a problem, isn't there? Because red flowers on a sunny day are the most difficult thing to photograph, are they not? Popping over to your photoblog to see how you did!
I love tulips! Heck, I've got one tattood on my shoulder. And I feel sorry for the lovely white tulips I got last week that are starting to wilt now. I might have to get another bunch during the tulip festival we have right now...
ReplyDeleteGod all these awesome shots of colour and spring and it's pissing rain here at the moment. Grey and I've even dragged the oil heater out.
ReplyDeleteWine in Thyme: I think they sell the bulbs in Autumn, so people can plant them in their gardens. Or... They harvest the tulips and sell them, but the flowers in this field are too far open (?), so I suspect they just sell the bulbs. It is a beautiful display isn't it? In other parts of the country the fields are larger and with more colours.
ReplyDeleteJay: I didn't know about the red flowers and the sunny day. Had I known they probably wouldn't have come out this good ;-)
ReplyDeletewat een prachtige klearen Ik ben nog nooit in de bollenvelden geweest. VOlged jaar misschien dan gaan we weer naar nederland
