Taking the piss

I just read a funny interview in our local newspaper.

A couple of police officers spotted a guy urinating in public. In the Netherlands we call someone who urinates in a public space a ‘wildplasser’ (plassen = to urinate). The officers wanted to give the guy a fine, but he refused to co-operate and the policemen had to put handcuffs on him. At that point two women started interfering and the wildplasser took the opportunity to run away, hands cuffed behind his back. The women were arrested and the wildplasser later went to the police station to turn himself in.

The journalist who interviewed the police spokesman asked: “Did he still have his hands cuffed?” “Yes, you can’t remove those handcuffs.” “Do you think he got thirsty?” “Or he needed to pee again.”

Such a dry sense of humour.

  2. Sigh. It's people like this that make me feel smart.

Interesting that the word for urinate is plasser. So close to pisser. Wonder if that's where the slang comes from?

  3. Jewels,
An other Dutch word for plassen is pissen. Or zeiken. Or... (lots of other synonyms). But 'pissen' is just a tad less chique (ahem) than 'plassen'.

  5. First thing that came to my mind was whether he had already finished his business at that point in time?
