Very entertaining…

Somewhere underneath this funky hairdo…

…you’ll find a little pony called Jimmy.

IMG_7589

He belongs to our very dear friends and their two little girls who were willing to demonstrate their pony handling and riding skills to us last Sunday. The lady in pink, yes, the one wearing the helmet, was supposed to show us how incredibly well she can ride Jimmy so she got all dressed up for the occasion. But she kindly offered to let her little sister go first. She actually said: “can my little sister go first mommy?”, which I though was very sweet. (If it had been me, my little sister probably wouldn’t have been allowed to even look at MY pony without me screaming and punching my little sister on the nose! But then again I could only dream of having my own pony and I don’t have a little sister. I’m slightly jealous of little people with little ponies.)

And then she showed us how to ride up and down steps…

…and her mom showed that she can ‘run like the wind’ while preventing daughter from bouncing off her little pony. Very entertaining.

Meanwhile, in the sky directly above us…

… an ultralight airplane was doing some stunts.
Also very entertaining. At first we thought something wasn’t quite right when we saw the black smoke coming out, but we heard the pilot shout ‘WHOOHOOOOO’ and it didn’t sound like a terrified scream.

And on Saturday we had a visit from the vet again. This time because Naloma managed to get a very big hole in her bottom lip. How? I don’t know. But it needed stitching. Not so much entertaining in the fun sense, but it certainly kept us busy for a while. Fortunately it wasn’t a hole through her lip, but it certainly was a gaping wound. And the top bit had a couple of smaller wounds and was really swollen. I put clay on it, the whitish stuff, because it disinfects and cools.

See how swollen it was? I took these photos on Sunday. It looks much more normal now. In about a week or two the stitches can come out. It will heal nicely the vet said (while probably mentally working out what kind of new car he’s going to buy).

  1. Carolina, I'm glad you're back.

Yep, that would've been me about the pony, except I didn't have a Shetland (my assumption on the picture) and no little sister. Annoying little brothers, on the other hand and they have the scars to prove it. My first was a 23-year-old 14 hand Quarter Horse, the old-fashioned round barreled kind with a back so broad that I didn't need a saddle.

  2. Adorable pony... looks like he's very close to being a mini. I have two.. currently living on a sheep farm.

Opie just healed from a gaping chest wound... you wouldn't even know it now, they heal incredibly well. It's always something, isn't it?

  4. Poor girl. The least the vet can do is name the car after her.

  5. Hi there Carolina!
YES>>>I was hooting and very entertained...that plane guy must have been hilarious hooting and hollaring! (as he thought to himself...I'm going to survive showing off!)
That pony and the two sisters..oh..melted my heart!

POOR Naloma! Crap..that was a terrible rip..I'd totally be scouring the field. Your vet will have a nice new ride if your mare finds that area again!
So glad to know she'll heal up and be good!
    XO

    You take care now!

  6. I think that little pony has shrunk from being left out in the rain too long! LOL :)

  7. WOOOOHOOOOOOO!!, a new post from Carolina!! (You've been missed.)

I am absolutely on sensory overload after seeing this post because it contained (a) monsters (I thought the first picture was Thing from The Addams Family), (b) an incredibly tiny horse, (c) two little girls in shocking pink, one with a futuristic helmet worthy of Lance Armstrong, (d) a World-War-I era bi-plane making lazy circles (okay, spirals) in the sky, and (e) another, larger horse wearing lip balm.

My heart can't take much more.

  8. Karen,
your poor little brothers ;-) And it is indeed a Shetland pony. They do not have a very good reputation. Mostly they look cute but don't act cute. But this one is a kind little pony. They are quite lucky to have found him.

    Karen,
Oh poor Opie. Hmm. These horses are as fragile as they are big ;-)

    Oskar,
You could have a Jimmy in your yard ;-)
Naloma is okay. It's healing very nicely. Thanks ;-)

    Liz,
I'll suggest that to him when he comes to get the stitches out LOL

    KK,
I did comb the field with a fine comb, but found nothing. I suspect she had a little confrontation with Evie, who is currently trying out how far she can go annoying the big ones. Naloma will be alright, but the wound looked so horrible that I didn't even want to take a photo of it to show you all. Although I know that sadly you are used to seeing nasty wounds ;-)

    Jinksy,
Hmm, the rain may have shrunk him, but it didn't wash him. He has very dirty feet ;-)

    RWP,
Oh dear, sorry. Take a deep breath. But the clue was in the title. Sorry if it almost was too entertaining for you ;-)

  9. Those pony shots, how adorable!!! Although I had to chuckle... the lil sister is riding without a helmet with the whole family at her side, while the older sister leads the pony with her helmet on, LOL!

And so sorry about Naloma's injury... horses, they are always getting themselves into some sort of mischief, which often equates to an injury or cut of some sort! Glad she will heal soon. :)

  10. Oh, I'd have been the same about my baby sister and MY pony, except that (like you) I had neither! I would also have suspected that any little girl who said sweetly 'can my sister go first' had an ulterior motive, but that's just my highly suspicious nature talkin', and I've grown up a little bit since then. I think. LOL!

Those wounds of Naloma's look like a bite! Poor girl. I hope it heals well!

  11. Jimmy looks like a Thelwell pony and aren't those little tots adorable?
Must be great to have your own air show ;-)
Poor Naloma - what a nasty experience for you all. You really must tell her to watch what she's doing when she's eating . . .
